Phonological Awareness Class
Ongoing Class
Service Description
In this ongoing class, students will learn how to rhyme, segment, blend, and manipulate spoken language. Phonological Awareness is the first reading component according to the Science of Reading, and it is also the most forgotten. Countless research has proven that reading difficulties typically stem from gaps in phonological awareness and not necessarily the other reading components. In this class, students will learn how to listen to sounds in words and sentences which will build a strong foundation for reading success. This class will meet live via zoom once a week for 30 minutes. This class is perfect for young learners who have speech/language delays, reading delays, or students who are just beginning to read and would like assistance with spoken language before heavy phonics instruction is given. Students will receive worksheet resources to go along with the lessons. Students can jump into any class session because each session is independent of the others. Worksheets will be sent after a class is booked and paid for. Learning goal: By the end of each class, students will be able to apply phonological awareness skills taught in class with minimal assistance. Homework: Homework is assigned but not mandatory. The assignments will be done outside of class for extra practice. The homework shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to complete. Pre-skills: Students should know how to operate the remote control sharing tool in order to have access to manipulate objects on a shared screen. Parents can assist students as needed. Students should know how to mute and unmute themselves when called on. Behavior: Students are expected to maintain appropriate behavior throughout the duration of the class. Parents understand that children can be removed from class for behavior impeding the ability of others to learn. Parents also acknowledge that you will not receive a refund in whole or part if students are removed from class due to behavior. Technical issues and cancellations: Parents understand that if they have technical problems during class, it is their sole responsibility and no refund will be issued. Parents understand they must cancel a class at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged for the class. Bookings for ongoing classes must be made more than 24 hours before the session start time.
