About Me

Who am I?

Hello and welcome!

My name is Keara Holmes -- a certified teacher and Direct Instruction tutor. I received my B.S. in Collaborative Special Education and Human Development & Family Studies from Auburn University. I also received my M.Ed in Special Education, specializing in Transitional Services, at Auburn University. I have taught in the elementary school setting and completed hundreds of teaching hours in the secondary and post-secondary settings. I absolutely love teaching and tutoring and am convinced that I am living out my calling and purpose in life. Before launching Holmes Tutoring, I was a Special Education teacher in a public elementary school. I decided to launch Holmes Tutoring after my late mother encouraged me to take a bold step and follow my deepest desire, which is to help people close their personal achievement gaps. I am married to my wonderful husband Anthony Holmes and we recently welcomed our sweet baby boy, Chosen, into our family! How I Got Started

My Story

Teaching has always been my passion so it was an easy decision for me to switch my major from Nursing to Special Education during my junior year at Auburn University. Prior to changing majors, I interned at UAB Hospital at the Center for Psychiatric Medicine where I worked with the acute adolescent unit. While there, I had the wonderful opportunity to observe the Special Education teachers and quickly realized that teaching was my calling! Fast forward a few years and I was teaching students in my own classroom and found it to be very rewarding. My students, however, required more one on one instruction and the workload demands were challenging. My high caseloads and diverse needs made it difficult to give my students what they needed, and deserved, in order to retain information taught to them. I knew there had to be a way I could continue to teach and make it more beneficial to students. That is when I started Holmes Tutoring! I changed up the traditional platform and deviated from the typical classroom setting in order to best help my students. I am thrilled that I get to tutor in the USA as well as tutor international ESL students! My hope for Holmes Tutoring is that it will continue to give students the opportunity to learn at their own pace, in the comfort of their own homes, and while using the latest research in effective teaching methodology. I am thrilled to continue living out my calling and hopefully making a difference in the lives of many students in need. Contact me for more information or to book a FREE consultation.
