Service Description

In this ongoing class, students will practice reading words in a carefully controlled sequence starting with CVC words and moving to multisyllabic words. Decodable and nonsense words will be given to students to help them focus on decoding skills instead of guessing. This class will meet live via zoom once a week for 30 minutes. This class is perfect for students needing extra exposure to words in isolation and in decodable connected text. This class is also perfect for students who have already taken the ongoing All about the ABCs as well as the Phonological Awareness with E.A.S.E. ongoing classes. Students who have already taken those classes should be more than ready to use prior skills learned, and apply them to reading words in this Phonics ongoing class. Students will be given suggestions for activities they can work on outside of class to help them improve. Suggestions include how to make flashcards and create games to make learning new words enjoyable. Students can jump into any class session, but it is highly suggested that students attend each class because some areas will build on previously exposed content. Learning goal: By the end of each class, students will be able to apply phonics skills taught in class to read words practiced. Homework: There will be no formal homework assigned for this ongoing class. Suggestions will be made for what students can do to help them continue to practice outside of class. Pre-skills: Students should know how to operate the remote control sharing tool in order to have access to manipulate objects on a shared screen when applicable. Parents can assist students as needed. Students should know how to mute and unmute themselves when called on. Students should also know how the letters of the alphabet and the most common sounds the letters make. Students should know how to sound out and blend sounds together. (If students don't know either of these skills, then I would suggest they start with the All about the ABCs or Phonological Awareness with E.A.S.E. classes first) Behavior: Students are expected to maintain appropriate behavior throughout the duration of the class. Parents understand that children can and will be removed from class for behavior impeding the ability of others to learn. Parents also acknowledge they will not receive a refund in whole or part if students are removed from class due to behavior. Technical issues and cancellations: No refund will be given in part or whole for technical issues.
