Phonics Assessments & Resources

The book Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons

Phonics is the second component of reading and it's all about the alphabetic principle and the foundations of decoding. If you are unfamiliar with this term, please go back and read the blog about phonics and the best way to teach it.

The number one resource I recommend to parents and teachers looking for an affordable phonics program is the book, “Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons." This book is a scripted and carefully sequenced program that helps students learn how to read. I've personally used it and the author is the person who coined the term "Direct Instruction." He designed this program to be used by parents and tutors with the same research found in other direct instruction programs. He wanted a program that was equally effective and affordable to families.

I've also created a FREE e-program outlining step-by-step how I use the book Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons in my classroom. I have several examples and resources as well.

Some other resources I found come from the Cox Campus website. I use these resources to drive some of my instruction. They also have great instructional courses on the Cox Campus website if you want to learn more about reading. Click on the links below to get your free resources.
